[Solved] Best way to get a new kitchen fitted?

Hi Folks

I am thinking of having my old kitchen replaced with new units. However, I don’t know much about modern appliances that need to go in new kitchens, pipe works and gas pipes etc.

Therefore, I am thinking of having the kitchen designed and priced professionally, such as the guys from Home Base. and get a local handyman to do the fitting. Do you think that would be a good idea?

Also, I don’t want to get ripped off by a local tradesman, so how can I make sure that I am paying a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The only thing I can suggest is that you go on recommendation - but that does mean you need to know of other people who have had their kitchens done.

Unfortunately this is always fraught with danger - I would definitely ask your friends if they know anyone.

Also do NOT pay them all the money before the job is done - especially as you are supplying the materials

Have you thought of something like IKEA or Wickes - and read some trade forums but remember nobody ever posts good stories on there!

Try Howdens for the units very good quality and most in the trade use them. They say trade only but if you go in and pay cash/card and ask someone with an acct to put it in their name most will do it as they give bigger discounts the more you spend everyone's a winner. Or you could just update the worktops and cupboard doors etc if the unit carcass are OK Google reface Scotland for some ideas what can be done
