Good Morning Folks
I am unemployed at the moment and apart from looking for another job, I have also decided to buy another property for letting it out. It seems a good investment since interest rates are low at the moment.
Anyway, this is taking out some time of my time from spent job hunting, so is it worth mentioning it on the cv? What wording/terminology could I use.
If I was lucky enough to get an interview with a prospective employer, should I bring this up in the conversation (i.e. While I was out of work part of the time was spent buying a property, doing it up, and letting it out).
What skills/experience would that show the employer that I have?
Thank U
...Surely you are classed as self employed not unemployed if you are buying a properties to renovate and rent out.
Hi Nannyjane
Thanks for your reply. However, I am only buying one property, not more than one.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think I would be self-employed with just that one!!
Sorry my mistake! As you wrote... " I have also decided to buy another property for letting it out", the word another indicated to me that you already have one or more.
If you are generating an income, then the implication is that you are employed, but I'm not 100% sure about that...It would definately have an impact on any unemployment benefit that you might be claiming. Certainly the deposit required to buy a property would be regarded as savings and again if someone has money in the bank over a certain amount, then that would also impact on entitlement to benefits.
I dont know your circumstances, you may not be claiming jobseekers allowance in which case it doesnt matter how much you have in the bank or wether you receive any income from whatever source. 🙂 ....The taxman might be interested though 🙁
Hi Nannyjane
Thanksd for your replyu.
However, the question was -

Hi being a maths tutor I wouldnt have thought you would be out of work for very long. you could always do private tutor work whilst you are buying, a buy to let property or do supply teaching, this way you wont need to say anything about buying a second house on your cv or you could say you have recently bought a property and have been renovating whilst waiting for the a vacencie. What sort of job are you going for
Hi
Thanks for your reply. I am looking for an accountancy based job. Do you think if I memtion this buy to let property, it would go against me when going for job interviews?
Hi there
Most prospective employers will look for gaps in your employment history - so it may be worth mentioning that you bought the house to do up as part of a grand scheme into property management . You could then argue that you suffered in the economic downturn and are now looking for a permanent role to secure a regular income.
Or something like that.
Thanks Mario.
Any more advice much appreciated.
