Hi
Just thought I would share an issue I had with my wrist, which seems to affect quite a few people. Having found that a number of colleagues at work have the same made me think to add it here in case it afflicts anyone.
It started (suddenly) as a pain in the wrist joint on the thumb side of my left hand and over a number of weeks got progressively worse (more painful) and I was not able to splay the thumb on my left hand without feeling excruiating pain. The doc referred me to a physio and after a discussion, she put it down to the constant picking up I had being doing with our daughter while on holiday shortly before the pain started. She told me it was known as deQuervain's tendonitis.
Wore a thumb splint for 4 weeks constantly and then lessened the wearing and did physio recommend wrist exercises and rubbed in anti inflamatory cream along the way.
It took about 7 months but the pain went and my wrist/thumb is fine now. No lasting effects. Did not have to have any surgery or cortizone injections. Everyone is different but just in case you have such and I know there is a lot on the web about steroid injections.
Glad to hear your recovering mate
Thanks Goonerplum. I have full use of the hand and thumb again.
One of the reasons I left the post though is the number of parents who I have come across who have had the same symptoms as me. Just thought it may be helpful to some one out there.... π
