Well,
im 32 - Been smoking since I was 13 So, id say a long time,
I was having a blood test and while they were struggling to get my blood, I just asked about giving up smoking. I said I had tried patches, gums and everything else. Nothing worked.
The nurse asked if I had tried the pills...... NO! I had not, explain more!
Basically. Champix is what they put me on. They told me to carry on smoking and stop as and when.
[censored] it was the easiest thing to do. I was a heavy smoker 20+ a day on a low stress day and more on worse days.
These pills do NOT give you nicotine but what they do is block the receptors in the brain. So, when you smoke your brain see this as not right and makes it feel like you've never smoked before.
I have been smoke free for over three months and like I say I was a heavy smoker. --- I took a puff the other day and wanted to puke.
Best move of my life.
Ask for champix, Dr.s won't suggest it as apparently it is expensive. BUT they can't refuse you if you ask!
Hope this helps anyone who is thinking of quitting --- Don't be sacred it really is easy WITH NO WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS
I smoked for 20 years and stopped by going cold turkey and using a bit of will power thats all you need.
Mate..... I admire you.... I tried that once, it was [censored] on earth..
If only I was that strong.
It was easy compared to giving up the Cannabis now that was hard!
Now...this is an interesting point you are making,Slim.
Why is giving up cannabis harder than giving up smoking?
I have a personal interest ( I have smoked some in my younger days....a long time ago)
hence my question.
If you don't mind me asking...how much cannabis did you smoke per day?
Take care
Kirsten
I gave up smoking on jan 1st this year which was so easy I just went cold turkey and done it never giving it a second thought but I carried on smoking cannabis through a pipe with no tobacco then gave up the Cannabis on feb 1st this year.
I smoked cannabis for exactly 20 years I smoked it every day, at work first thing in the morning and last thing at night I probs had one break for 6 days in 20 years.
I drove on it actually rolled joints whilst I was driving sometimes, I was permanently stoned. I used to smoke about 10-15 joints a day probs spending about £100-£140 a week on it then come feb 1st just went cold turkey and stopped it dead.
Then I went through THE worst 4 months of my life, hot sweats, indigestion, shivers, been sick, insomnia, sweating bucket loads, couldn't, eat, came out in spots and rashes it was absolute [censored] on earth I'd get depressed angry I'd be up and down like a yoyo it was horrific all this whilst not seeing my daughter but in a strange way it kept my mind off the courts.
Thats one good thing that has come out of all this I'm no longer a drug addict the change in me is unreal my family cant believe it I've put on stacks of weight I train every night working on my peter andre six pack hahahahaha! But seriously its the best thing I have ever done 🙂
Slim 🙂
Dudr, I re-itterate I admire your strength..... There is NO WAY ON THIS EARTH that I could go cold turkey -- No chance.
I was a proper full on 20+ a day smoker from the onset, I think 13 and I'm 32 now... Tried all the bull++it from the Dr's, patches, gums and all the rubbish.
These pills though, EASY AS PIE .... like magic,
Congrats to both of you - i'm well impressed. Especially as I am a smoker of 26 years - have tried most things to help give up (including Cold Turkey so really impressed with Slim).
Was it really that easy with champmix ?
Gooner,
YES !!!
They tell you to "set a date" within two weeks of taking these pills, I stopped on my own after three days. To smoke made me feel seriously sick, At that point I had MILD cravings BUT they lasted seconds.
If you consider wanting to go down that route, my advice is this...... Take the pills after eating as they can make you suffer nausea real bad on an empty stomach. Other then that, yes, easiest thing in the world.
I don't give the ciggs a 2nd thought.
Perhaps Gooner, you could give up for charity.
No pressure mate 😀
Give up for ALS challenge instead of getting wet..... Like me!
Goner....it does indeed to appear to be very easy.
"Life" just announced one day he was going to quit, got the pills and that
was that....
Both my husband and I smoke...alas outside as we don't want the grandchildren
to come to a smoke filled house...and they day will come when I will take the pills myself.
I had anticipated bad moods, cravings etc from my son....but nothing, he was his usual self.
And...not to forget, hitting crisis point with his ex, going to court and more, which would make you
and me light one after another....
Slim....well done to you for kicking the weed...I take my hat off to you
I didn't realise it took so long for the stuff to get out of the system though.
Take care
Kirsten
