Has anyone ever had a wrong paternity result by way of one parent switching the dna samples or the lab making mistakes with other samples ect...

be good to hear as i am suspicious as my son has brown eyes and me and the mother has blue. However i have tested twice and both tests say positive i am the father but when i asked a dna specialist he said it was impossible BUT two brown eyed parents can have blue eyed children.

Heya shaun,

it is possible but unusual.

The old school days of mendelian genetics doesnt, like most things we were taught, apply to real life.

Lab error is a possibility but to happen twice is rather uncommon. Could try third time or a different company?

Good luck

thanks for your reply. The thing is the kid is Asian looking and me and the mother are Caucasian.

+ there was a spare test sent to mothers surgery where the sampling was done and mother new the sampler.

It would seem she has got round the test wouldn't you think ?

But checked my sample with lab again with a new sample from my own doctor and she was not involved in this and the lab said the sample was the same as the first they received......

It does not make sense......... + I had to take mother to Court for the test in the first instance as she would not do test until ordered by judge....

Please let me no what you think now as more to follow mate.

Thanks again

Shaun

Is the child healthy and well - accounting for why they may not classically look like you?

The first test does sound dodgey - but I would be surprised if they mixed samples - someones job would be on the line. You can go to another / independent person for a repeat test.

What do you think her motive is with regards to paternity - does she want you to be more involved or just seeking your financial assistance :)?

Hi mate

Thanks for the reply. I am so confused....

On the health side of things, child is fine. GOOD

On the test side of things, this is where it does not make sense. Because after the first test, i did not believe the answer, so i rang the testing company and they said i went to a different surgery for my sampling and not mothers, but the surgery the guy mentioned, mothers friend also works part time as a sister nurse - between the 2 surgeries..........

On the financial side of things, mother had a lotto gain, as the CSA was due to take me to Court pending the out come of the test, for a liability order of child maintenance for approx 18K

+ Mother will not sanction any contact whatsoever between me and child.......does not make sense.

there is more to follow, look forward to your thoughts so far mate, thank you

As far as I know, statistically speaking, if both parents have blue eyes, then the child will always have blue eyes (double recessive genes if I remember correctly) BUT nature is quite a wonderful thing in that mutations occur naturally, so the genes responsible for the eye colour (or any other gene for that matter) may not follow the rules every time, and it's quite possible that this has happened in your case.

My ex has blue eye's,I have green. We have two children, one has blue eye's and the other has brown. The brown eyes could be passed down from another relative,as in my case as I have rellies with brown eyes.
