Why are we not asked to swear or affirm at the family court? Does this mean there are no consequences to telling untruths?

If you are in family court at a fact finding and cross examination questions situation you will be under oath, also all statements submitted this far need ending with a statement of truth.

If you are asking whether there are judicial consequences for the below in family court proceedings, the answer is exceptionally rarely:

-Distortion of facts

-False statements

-Exaggeration
