So we have our first hearing on Friday. My partner will just be going into this one, but I am going along too in case they do need to speak to me. So now with it being a week away I'm starting to stress about everything and it may sound stupid, but I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on what to wear to court. We have white shirts and black and grey trousers, but what else is acceptable? Other shirts, as long as their smart. We don't have suit jackets either. Any help would be good thanks.
I know this is in the wrong place cant figure out how to delete and post again.
casual/smart trousers shirt and shoes will do no need for a sharp Savile Row suit leave that to the money grabbing solicitors wait till you see the benefit street chavs in trainers and track suits in the waiting area, you'll be in for a shock trust me! 🙂
You'll be wise to get to court in plenty of time put plenty of money in the parking meter, take loads of change for coffee and munchies chill out and put a smile on your face 🙂
Hello LostDad,
Dressing appropriately for court shows respect to the court. What I mean by this is looking clean, neat and tidy. It is the attention to detail that matters such as being clean shaven (if you don't wear a beard or moustache), hair combed, finger nails clean and short, a clean well ironed collar to your shirt, wear trousers (not jeans), clean and polished shoes (not trainers). If you do not have a jacket a nice jumper would suffice (not one with motifs on). Don't worry about not having a suit or a jacket, make do with what you have but make sure of the little points I've mentioned. Attention to detail is noticed.
Don't forget to take a handkerchief. It can be useful in that you can use it if you are speaking and you need to pause for a few seconds to think. Just say "excuse me" before using it and the same goes if you need to take a sip of water for the same reason.
I would get your clothes and shoes ready this weekend if possible then that will be done and you will not be rushing at the last minute.
Most important is that whatever you choose to wear you MUST be comfortable in them!
