Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of how i would go about appling to the court for a varience in child maintenance ? Also I have a court order for access to my children every Wed and second weekend and can call my children to talk to them when I wish to. I have recently moved from Jersey (where I lived for 20 years) due to lack of work over there and to find employment, and could be over in the uk for some time. My ex wife who has constantly caused problems with my access to our children is now saying there is no way she allowing them to visit me for holidays in the uk, she is also causing me a lot of problems trying to even call them on a weekly basis.I know my son is feeling my absence and wants to see me (he is 7). I need to be able to contact him regulary to reassure him I am still here for him, and that he can come and see me any time he wishes, but my ex keeps telling him I have left him and I don't care, then texting me that I cant see the children. It is a very difficult situation, so won't go into it all too much, but if anyone knows of a really good family solicitor (that is realistically priced as funds are very tight) that could help or advise me with this I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks.

Hi there and welcome πŸ™‚

i would have thought that you would need to apply to the court in Jersey for a variance of contact. Here that is done with a C100 form and there is a charge of Β£200 to submit it to court. But it might be different in Jersey.

Solicitors dont come cheap! You could look into a McKenzie Friend, these charge anything from Β£35 - Β£95 an hour for their services but they do not represent you in court as such, but are there just to support you and help with things like form filling etc. and attend court with you.

Alternatively you could ask the Citizens Advice Bureau if they have a list of volunteer McKenzie friends in your area. If you are based in London you could contact the PSU. They are a charity and also provide support for people that self represent but they only work in London the link to their website is www.thepsu.co.uk. They also work out of Manchester.
