hi been trying to do a search but couldn't find any info due to be being a new member
so hope this is in the correct place

ive been trying to find out t info on unpaid leave for children under 5 ( 18 if disabled)

i work for royal mail (RM) and when my daughter who was born in may last year
i called m RM human resources to ask about the unpaid leave

they had to check and after a few minutes said yes i was entitled to them

i then asked if the weeks that i get( cannot mind how many weeks it was) if i can take these weeks when it convenient for me
for example during the school holidays )
they then informed me tat i had to see my delivery office manager for this
but due to past experience he not the easiest to talk to
so would like to know the following
1) how many weeks am i entitled to per year
2) do i have to take the weeks that my manager offers me or can i request my preferred weeks
3) can these weeks be taking in blocks IE 1 week or 2 weeks at a time/

i know this has been about for few years as was about then my other daughter was born around 10 years ago
but my new daughter has down syndrome which isn't an issue but she has a few hospital appointments plus one operation to get in the next few moths
so like to know my rights on this
thanks for any replies

I suppose each company will be different regarding their HR policies, I could get 6 weeks paid up to the child was 5yrs old. I suppose time off would be for illness etc or work dependant your boss might not want you off at busy periods or when theres shortage of staff (hols etc)

I'd get it in writing from HR that your entitled to it and have a 5 min chat with your boss never know he might be OK and you dont know til you ask.
