[Solved] text communications

For a number of reasons including waking the children and me I asked my ex partner to use an alternative number to text me as she will text me all hours. I asked her politely to use my personal mobile for emergencies however last night gone midnight she sent me a text which woke me and then I had difficulty getting back to sleep. She refuses to use the alternative number/mobile.

I suppose the obvious is to put my mobile on silent at night time but why should I , is there anything else I can do ?

Cheers

Hi cartmell

Depending on the type of phone you have you can block someone from contacting you and unblock them at your leisure.

Turning the phone off or on silent as you say is another way to deal with things.

From a legal perspective there's not much you can do other than involving courts or police but if it's not constant harassment there wouldn't be much they could do or would pay attention to.

She's probably lonely, bored and needs some attention. The drawback of putting your phone on silent or limiting her communication is that it could equally affect the frequency or quality of information you get - swings both ways.

Rather than go via the convoluted way of having two numbers for different times, clearly explain that lights out for you is at a certain time and you are entitled to rest.

I cannot stay up past 9.30pm due to a very early rise so I put my phone on Do not Disturb unless certain conditions are met and mute notifications. Invest in an iPhone or similar if that helps.

The legal way will be too draconian in my opinion.

Text messages past midnight sounds like a booty call to me ha ha

I'll admit that I'm not technically minded and raised in the generation of pre constant mobile usage but why not leave your mobile in another room when it's bedtime?

If you have an Android phone, there s a brilliant app called tasker - it can be a bit technical to use, but I can help if necessary.

I use it - it silences my phone at night (after a certain time when on charge) but will allow certain numbers only to ring through, so I know I won't miss emergency calls from my kids/family.
