Hi Dad.info
This for a friend of mine whos struggling to get started and finding the best way to do it.
His ex has moved up to Scotland and taken his son with her due to issues he had and how she left him he didnt chase her down at that time.
Now he doesnt know where she lives apart from knowing the city name in Scotland.
He payed for a professional to find her address and then he sent a letter to the house but got the letter sent back saying person doesn't live there anymore.
What is the best way of finding hes son and starting a case to see him.
Is there any court order in place? Taking him to Scotland is classed as taking him out of the country.
No theres no court order.
His ex did say she was going to live there.
Wouldn't that matter.
Hi There,
He could apply to the courts for help, they would be able to find her he could apply for a seek and find order I think it's called, once she has been found the court process could then start
GTTS
Thank you
Will try and support him with that.
Any advice always welcome
Scottish family law differs from family law in England and Wales, so I’m not sure if the advice on seek and find orders would apply to your friends case.
It would be a good idea for him to contact the Scottish Children’s Legal Centre, they will be able to advise him on the law up there and what he needs to do. Here’s a link to their website
www.sclc.org.uk
It might also help him to contact the Families Need Fathers branch in the area of Scotland he thinks she lives in. They can offer him support and advice, here’s a link to the website where you’ll find details of branch meetings in Scotland, which you'll find at the bottom of the page.

All the best
Thanks again Mojo.
