[Solved] Separation - Mortgage buy outs

Hi All
So me and the ex are separated for around 4 months now. We are arranging the mortgage on the house and she is going to buy me out, she has a decision with the bank but needs to organise a solicitor to handle the transfer of the title deeds as well as the transfer of the cash. Now I am willing to try and work together with her to keep legal costs down but she is dragging it out a little bit trying to sort a solicitor due to the fees.
Has anyone been through a similar process, is it worthwhile getting my own solicitor to handle my side of the transfer or is it a waste of money?

Generally, I think it depends on how complex the settlement is, but where there is a majority of agreement between the divorcing parties, it’s possible to do it without a solicitor... there are some really good guides on Advice Now, with really clear and easy to understand info. I’ll see if I can get you a link.

Hi

Whilst you can sort most things yourself, a good solicitor representing you will avoid some of the delays you have already experienced and any further going forward. Otherwise you are technically reliant on a solicitor representing your exs interests..

To a degree it all depends on the value of cash settlement you are expecting and whether you can handle any undue delays.

If its just the conveyancing aspect and sorting the house then you may even be able to instruct a solicitor on a fixed fee basis.

Not saying you have to get a solicitor, just weigh up the decision.

It may be that the mortgage company will insist you have a solicitor. If they are transferring money they will want that to be held by an accredited solicitor while the transfer is taking place. You could ask them to make sure.

I faced this many times, but the guys from Mortgage Broker Essex ( https://www.Essexmoneyman.com) helped me out. I have been working with them for several years and during this time they gave me loans for business development many times and so far I have not encountered any problems. I always liked them. loyalty and reverent attitude towards customers. Such is now a rarity and I am sure that you will find such service in few places. In addition, they are real professionals and can advise you in any matter. So you know my opinion on this matter.
