[Solved] School's Obligations

My elder daughter is at the local secondary school. I have an issue with receiving correspondence from them regarding my child. Since September 2013 I have received 1 letter. This was a hand written letter from a specific teacher to tell me how well my child was doing.

All other correspndence relating to parents evenings, awards ceremonies and trips etc fails to get sent. I have spoken with them numerous times and been told that their database allows a primary contact and address and a secondary contact and address. The primary contact (mother ) receives all correspondence but I recieve none even though they assure me the system is set to send to mother and father.

My ex tells me nothing and barely communicates and I have minimal contact with the child in question (he is 13 so court order cannot be enforced).

What are the legal obligations? I have full PR and do attend all events at school as I ring them constantly to keep abreast of events!! I have threatened to write to the chair of Governors but don't know what to quote?

Any advice welcome!

I think this is quite common in high schools. I found myself in the same position.
The only thing I received was half and yearly reports. All correspondence went to the primary address they held which was the exs unfortunately.
I'm not sure what you can do about it, I'd be intrigued to find out if you do mange to get somewhere.

Hi Brickhouse, this really gets my blood boiling, heard it so many times. If you have PR school has a legal obligation to keep you informed and updated, the only time they can refuse is if there safe guarding issue. First go onto your Local Authority website, look for the policy that deals with these issues, then a letter off to the Head of school, be very polite but simply request what you want, ask the Head to put in writing to you why they are refusing to give you information and for a copy of the relevant educational policy they are using to make there decision. If this doesn't doesn't work next level is Head of Education for Local Authority, If no joy you can ask for a review to involve, Head Teacher, Head of Education even educational social worker, ask local MP to be involved, you should be at this point be getting what you want, may take a bit of time but persevere.
