Hi,
I'm currently separated and looking for recommendations for a solicitor who is fair, logical, and fairly priced in the London area - ideally London Bridge.
I'd be grateful if anyone could recommend someone they have used, or are using.
thanks
Sorry I don't have any recommendations but I am beginning to wonder if solicitors are worth it.
They provide advice and help with writing position statements and advise on course of action and fill forms and write letters, etc. All things which I personally think most people can do with some research, Mackenzie friends or with the help of people like Mojo on this forum.
My solicitor charges me £22 plus Vat for reading my reply to her email that contains the words 'thanks' .
I am seriously thinking of doing all the paperwork and correspondence myself and just hire a barrister directly for the court hearings. They are self employed and provide fixed price for representing you in court.
Have a look at Represnting yourself....as soon as a solicitor sees contact dispute they rub their hands together knowing that if you're really prepared to start down that route they stand to make thousands off you before you run out of money or can't continue emotionally.
£9k using a solicitor got me no more time than i started out with....it actually helped the ex stop contact on many occassions.
you could always try the Bar Pro Bono Unit....read the sticky thread in this section
or try a MacKenzie Friend....a [censored] of a lot cheaper and more focused on child law
I used a solicitor in London about 15 years ago, who was very good, but his standard rate was £300 per hour (I got a 20% discount through a connection), and total bill was over £40k. If you pay less, then you will get someone less experienced. I would take the advice above, and look at self-rep or using a McKenzies friend if possible.
