What was the reason for re-registering the birth?

I'm really not sure about that...it might be worth giving the Registry Office a call and they will be able to clarify that. So drop back and let us know what they say

All the best

The reregistration of the birth was because she refused put me on it when they registerd the birth in first place and i got a court order to grant me pr rights theb i did a gro 185 form n sent it off and they have allowed me to re register the birth without mother being present. To add my name as the father

Unless the court order states a change of surname, you would have to apply to court separately as a Specific Issue Order for a name change. There's no guaranteed outcome with that, it would be at the discretion of the court.

Well i went and reregisterd the birth without mother being present. They have now ammended it anf the old birth cert is no longer valid and cant be used eg when they register school nursery etc. They have to use the new birth cert as they said the old one wont be around anymore. I asked if they use the olf one knowing that i habe re registerd the birth can they get done and they said yes as they will also habe to update it all now with doctors and anywhere else they have used the birth cert with.

Did you manage to change the name without the mother being present? I am in the same position and want to do the same thing...

It's unlikely the surname would ever be changed you would havnt to lead her on and marry her it's the only way or if it's that important offer a large sum of money to the mother the change the surname or lastly once that child is 18 of there close enough to you they may change by deed poll
