[Solved] Legal advice

Hi everyone
I’ve just decided to submit a C100 form to gain more access to my child. Am nervous about what lies ahead
I’ve 2 questions
1. Is legal representation advised? I can’t really afford it but could get a bank loan if people who’ve been through it before think it’s necessary
2. Is there anywhere I can get some free legal advice
Thanks everyone

Hi there,

you can gain some good advice from us here, none of us are qualified solicitors, but we have a lot of experience between us all and we will give honest advise, we won't tell you that you will get XYZ if we don't think you will, mainly because even the highest trained solicitor couldn't be 100% certain what you would get as it all down to the judge on the day.

You can represent yourself through out, a lot of us have done this and it isn't as difficult as you would think.

It does depend on your case to a certain extent, if you have a straight forward case with no history of abuse or drugs then there is really no reason you can go through court without legal help.

Hi there

I agree with GTTS, self representing is doable and we have helped many through the process, with much success.

Some members have done the preliminary work themselves and used a direct access barrister for the final hearing.

Using a McKenzie Friend might be another option for you, they can advise and support you through the case, sit next to you in court, but they can’t speak for you, unless the court gives permission. There are some great MFs, but as they’re an unregulated body, it’s important that you find recommendations and do some research about them first. We could possibly help with that if you decidedto use the services of one.

You could think about attending a Families Need Fathers meeting in your area, where you can get face to face advice and support from others in a similar situation. Here’s a link to their website, where you’ll find details of meetings nationally, hopefully there’ll be a branch near you.

All the best
