My Ex wont sort out the forms to get my name put on my 7month old sons birth cirtificate. she will just keep making excuses as to why it can't be done. It's getting suspitious that she keeps putting it off. how would i get hold of his birth cirtificate to see if shes put 'father unknown' or even another mans name.

Any advice whatsoever would be very apreceated.

Thanks

Hi ThePriceWePay,
Welcome to Dad Talk.

As long as you know your son's name, where, when, his birth was registered etc it seems easy. From the info I have found online I see your choices are:

  • request a copy from the register office his birth was registered at (go there or do by post);
  • online, by phone, or by post at the General Register Office;

I found the website for the General Register Office (GRO) and you can buy a copy of the birth certificate (I think the full birth certificate shows the Father's name).

The GRO website says you will need
* One of the following valid credit or debit cards
maestroVisaMastercardDeltaSolovisa-electron
* Full name and postal address
* An e-mail address
* Details of the registration event you are applying for - e.g. birth, death, marriage, civil partnership or adoption
If you are using the site for the first time you will need to complete the registration process. You will only need to go through this process the first time you use the system.

Here's the GRO website: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

There is also some information on birth certificates on the Directgov website which I thought looks relevant: Changing a birth record

I also found a general website which had other ways you can get a copy of the birth certificate (and prices, GRO address phone and email):
Getting a copy of a birth certificate

Let us know how you got on. I hope your son's birth certificate shows what you want it to show.
