[Solved] Help needed to get police incident reports/notes

Right guys and girls……..i need help on getting police records of reported incidents….the last time I needed copies the courts ordered police disclosure and I was represented by solicitor.

I had the police out to speak to my ex at the weekend for failing to let my little one come with me….i never heard back from them about that….so I emailed the ex about giving her a final last chance….what happened next I really should have anticipated.
I got a call from the police saying my ex wants no further emails or texts…(I’ve not text her since asking if my little one would bring swimming kit on the weekend!)
She now will only accept “letters via royal mail!”.

I’m looking for some legal “jargon” to request the police records of these two events they were contacted about.
I thought it was under freedom of speech or freedom of information but I’m needing something that they have to respond to without the need of court ordering it again!

Any ideas?

Hi dad-i-dad,

I suggest that you submit a subject access request to your local force. This will show information held on the local force computer and there is an option to also request from the police national computer.

Takes up to 40 days but usually arrives sooner.

Google your local force and subject access request, there will likely be a form that you can complete and print and take into your local station. Costs about £20 to submit.

https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q87.htm

It may only have cursery information but is a starting point for you. If you need police notes from notebooks that may take further digging not sure hw you will get those but will dig around.

Regards,

Dave

Hi,

My partner and I had the same issue regarding information relating to his ex. If you call the non-emergency police number 101 and ask to be put through to data protection and explain to them exactly what it is you're after (any details such as addresses of incident, date and time will help) they will be able to advise you. There is a form on the police website that you fill in requesting all the information and when you send it off it costs £10 for the application.
It took around a month for them to forward us the information we required and you can only get details on situations relating to you, your ex's name will be censored. However, it's fairly obvious from the report to whom it is referring. You can get a copy of the full incident report even if there was no crime committed exactly as it was recorded by the police at the time. For the sake of £10 it is well worth doing and the police are very helpful when you call them. Good luck!

Oh, and we did this after the final hearing with no court involvement whatsoever so you shouldn't require any second body request or particular legal jargon. Everyone has a right to information held on record regarding incidents relating to them and you can submit your request at any time. Make sure you get the form specific to your local police force as we had to obtain information from two separate areas and the forms varied slightly. Good luck again!
