[Solved] First court date

Hello all,

So I had my first court hearing on Thursday where I was applying for parental responsibility and a child arrangement order, I am representing myself.

When the papers were served on my ex she stopped all contact, even indirect and refused to visit a contact centre, but low and behold in the waiting room before court her Lawyer agreed to parental responsibility and for her to provide some other information I need to change the birth certificate, why she couldn't do this before I do not know!

In terms of contact we have agreed to visit a contact centre fortnightly, and possibly weekly if another centre can be found, I have since found another local centre less than 10 miles, so have asked her lawyer if acceptable.

As my ex made every allegation under the sun, we are waiting for a section 7 report completed by SS not cafcass (should I be worried) I did get her to agree all marijuana use was historic, by asking if the test came back negative costs would be split, which judge agreed to.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you all for the information on this site it has come in very handy, also if you are in a similar situation I hope you take solice in the fact that self representation is possible, if not better.

It might not be perfect having to visit a contact centre, and I know I may have won the battle but the war continues, but any contact is better than none, and I will tick every box so the court can see I want to be a committed parent.

Jon

hi jon and thanks for sharing

SS are currently doing my section 7 report due to my ex partners fairytales and lies that have been proven untrue in court...and she even being investigated for legal aid fraud becuase of it

Just accept the contact and bite the bullet and do everything the court asks. SS may either invite you in for an interview or in my case they did a home visit which didnt bother me as im very lucky in being able to live in a beautiful home to the point where the SW said "OOO i must take of my shoes" which we told him was not necessary but he insisted lol
