[Solved] Defamation @ Child Protection

My (future ex) wife asked for the divorce on February this year and has done nothing about it, but excuses. She has started a defamation campaign with child protection claiming I'm abusive. She doesn't work, doesn't contribute to household expenses and chores. She's saying she wants to relocate to France with our 20 month old son, and is also saying she was to take him on holiday to Argentina for one month, something I don't want to accept as I'd miss him too much and don't trust her.

Thanks to how well she acted in front of Child Protection, anything I do like filing for divorce myself, asking her to pay part of the rent or others are seen as myself not being kind, based on their idea I'm emotionally abusive. As she's not a EU citizen, she was certain social services would find the way to sort out her immigration status, but this is not the case. She now depends on me allowing her to adopt my citizenship, and if I don't our social worker will think I'm not kind. Due to her false allegations presented to the social workers, I'm now being forced to allow her to take her time so I'm not judged as a bad partner/parent.

I just don't understand how regular people can afford for legal care here. I live in Hertfordshire and just for a Prohibited Steps Order we're talking at least about £2000 if uncontested. Every solicitor is quoting me £5000 to £30000 for a divorce - I guess we all agree this is not that kind of £550 mutual agreement divorce. Is there something I'm not seeing here? Pro Bono lawyers seem to be dedicated more to other types of law.

Thanks in advance

Hi there

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. You can apply for the PSO and any subsequent applications yourself. You don't have to use lawyers.

If you are self represented, you can use Child Law Advice for free Legal Advice and I would highly recommend speaking with them.

If you think she is likely to leave the country or take an extended holiday, it would be better to make an urgent application for a PSO.

Keep posting here and we will do what we can to assist
