I'm in the middle of writing the 2 paged statement required for my court hearing, which is in 3 weeks time (23rd)! I was wondering, with the little over 10 years since the last court hearing, what I should focus on. So far it looks like this (attached), I'm trying to focus on key points / events that sum up the problems (conflict, violence, deception, etc.). Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Win'
Hi
I'm not sure if it's me (I'm not on my own PC at the moment) but when I enlarge the attachment, the text isn't legible.
...it's unreadable for me too.
I'll try to reformat the file, it doesn't allow pdf's or Word documents, so not sure what to do...
Hi Mancinism
I've removed both posts with attachments. Because you have given so much information as far as names and places. Family courts are private and anything that goes on behind the closed doors is strictly confidential....you could be held for contempt of court if the judge knew you were posting statements, or anything concerning the case on public forum. If your Ex were to google your name then this would show up for sure.
It might be better to ask if anyone would read through your statement privately and give you some advice through private messaging. Or you could edit out all names and places and anything else that can be traced back to you and then repost.
Hi Mod',
wow, thank you so much, as you can see I'm new to this and had no idea I was making myself so vulnerable! I'll censor the names and repost as soon as I can.
Thanks again!

I've read through your statement and to be honest it needs a major rewrite. Whilst a little background is helpful, it's usual to limit that to a short paragraph or two.
The court are really only interested in moving things forward and too much mud slinging or bad talk about the other person Is best to be avoided.
It must be child focused, with numbered pararagraphs and headings, and spacing should be 1.5 to make it easy for the judge to read.
I will find a link to a template so that you have a better idea of what it should look like.
How far along are you with the court proceedings? Has the statement been requested by the court and if so, what type of statement have they asked for?

You should find the above links helpful. π
I've also moved this topic into the Legal Eagle section where it will hopefully get more replies.
