[Solved] Contact at a mother's whim!

Hi. I have recently found out I have a newborn daughter. The mother seems to have little interest in me playing any significant role in our child's life. I've not even met her yet. I doubt very much that she'd put my name on the birth certificate. Do I have any rights?

Hi Cal

I've moved your post to the Legal Eagle section as it will get more attention here!

Have you spoken to her about getting your name on the BC?

At the moment, without your name on the birth certificate you don't have any rights. I think you should try and talk to her and see if you can't get some agreement. If this isn't possible then you would need to attend mediation, this is now compulsory before any court application can be considered. Here's a link to the mediation service

Legal Aid is still available for mediation but not for court. You can check if you qualify here
