Does anyone have advice for my friend who is trying to get his daughter brought back from the States where her mother has taken her and from where she is refusing to return. My friend is on benefits so has no money. He also is very seriously ill with suspected bowel cancer so is desperate to try and get his daughter back as quickly as possible. He has legal representation here in the UK and has a lawyer prepared to work pro-bono in the states however this lawyer is saying he will still need in the region of £2k to cover the cost of the application fee plus expenses. Realise he could apply for all costs to be covered I think but this could potentially take some months - which he may not have. Also, does anyone know if this is something the police child protection unit should be doing something about? They are being pretty vague about whether this something that they could help with. Many thanks.

If your friend has parental responsibilty and he didn't consent to his child going to the USA then that counts as abduction and he could try getting some help from a charity called REUNITE, here's a link http://www.reunite.org/contact.asp

Even if there is no PR in place I still think that it's worth contacting them anyway to see if they may still be able to offer any help or advice going forward.

My best wishes go out to your friend in getting this sorted and his health issues.

Thank you so much for that recommendation. Have just had a quick look at their website. Brilliant. Didn't even know they existed. Will definitely get in touch with them. Thank you also for best wishes which I will pass on.

Many thanks.
