[Solved] Can I back claim child benefit?

My wife ran off with another man last year leaving our daughter living with me in the marital home.
We have since divorced.
She has continued to claim child benefit ever since she left.
I have only just applied for (and have been granted child benefit).
Can I backdate it to when she left last year and will she have to repay what she has fraudelently claimed for the last year or so?
Thank you.

Hi, I think you can only backdate a claim for Child Benefit by 3 months.

https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit/how-to-claim

In theory your ex should have to pay it back but there's no guarantee.

If you want further help, give the Child Benefit line a call or contact your local Welfare Rights group.

Yoda is spot on as always πŸ™‚

3months is maximum from a claim start (previous).

Ex is very unlikely to have any further action taken against her. Just the system I'm afraid
