I received a letter from cafcass saying they have closed the case before the first hearing and that I will receive the safeguarding letter. I have revived it and I called cafcass and they said the letter was sent straight to the court and I won't get a copy. Why would this be? I thought you got a copy of the safeguarding letter?
Thanks
Mike
Hi,
quite often Cafcass may decide to not show you the letter, because it possibly contains lots of allegations made by your ex. so they may decide to not show it, to avoid any more conflict/tensions rising between you and ex. but if letter says they are closing case and playing no further part, then it's likely they have no child welfare concerns, which would be good news for you. when is your hearing and what arrangements are you seeking?
The first hearing is the 21st march. I've never been in trouble in my life. I bought my ex over on a visa and 1 month before her visa was due to expire she ran off with my son and claimed financial abuse. So stressed and emotionally ruined by all of this aswell as financially. Every time something like this happens it just ruins my day.
My solicitor has told me she has for me a barrister for the first hearing, will I meet her prior to it or will I just see her for the first time on that day?
Thank
Mike
hi,
am not sure. you could ask solicitor if you will be speaking to barrister before hearing. have they given you an estimate on how much you will pay for legal costs? usually if solicitors are referring barrister to you, it costs a lot more. it's cheaper to drop solicitors and to hire a barrister directly, and they can do work for you on a fixed fee basis. can be done from direct access portal: https://www.directaccessportal.co.uk/search/1/barrister
@bill337
Hi, the barrister they have assigned me will be £1000 plus vat. Its a senior barrister so not sure if that makes any difference or not. This is for the first hearing
Thanks Mike
@mikey187 ok that seems to be a good price for a senior barrister. in past I paid similar for a more junior barrister.
Sounds very good to me - I paid £2500 for each hearing, and that was almost 20 years ago.
