Hi,

You can get your name added onto the birth certificate by reregistering the birth. The ways to do this are
1) Attend with the mother
2) Have a declaration of paternity.

I suspect you will need the latter.

You will need to go to court, have a court approved DNA test, and then ask the court to issue a "declaration of paternity" - This is not a PR order, or a PR agreement - it is something different. You then send this declaration off to the general registry office and they will amend the birth certificate.

. Hi
I have just phoned up the General registrar’s office the number is 0300 123 1837 and asked the question as My son will be wanting to get his name on his daughter’s birth certificate
If the mother will not agree and we all know the answer to that one! If there is no dispute you are the Daddy and you get awarded parent responsibility you need to fill in a GRO 185 form you can find it on their website, and its free . you will need to send it to the main Registrar office in Southport with a copy of the PR order, you will have to have the copy certified to say it’s a copy of the true copy, a teacher, doctor a professional, like you do when you get your passport, you do not need a copy of the child’s birth certificate as most times the dad will not have one. you have to go to tell them on the form where you want to go to pick the new birth certificate up, its better going to the one your child was registered but as you can get it there and then when you get a letter from the main registrar, but if you can’t you can nominate one local to you and arrange it that way but because they won’t have the original they will have to send it to you, you will have to pay for this copy. You cannot change the child’s surname unless the mother agrees

The only way you can be removed is to have DNA tests and there not your children

basszebra.

Sorry if I wasnt clear. A declaration of paternity wont allow you to change your sons name, only be added to the birth certificate. It is a way to avoid having to apply for a PR order, which can alow the ex to cites reasons you shoudnt be given PR, or give reasons to wait until PR is given and you have "proved" yourself.

Re changing your sons name. How old is he? Were you with your ex at the time of his birth?

thankyou very much guys. so the only way my son would have my surname is if the mother agrees?
could i get my sons middle name changed? or is that only with mothers permission. cant i do what tony said to get his surname changed to mine?

To the best of my knowledge, there are only two ways to get his surname changed to yours
1. If you can get a court to order it (very unlikely)
2. If you marry the mother :boohoo:

Hatred is an understatement in my situation !!!! Lose your freedom through a lying mother of your kids and you really understand why the f..ck did i have children with a monster !!!! I learnt to switch off and now i dont even think about her or my kids . Sad but true , my kids are innocent but they will be poisoned , my attitude is let em get on with it .
