Need advise,
I have been paying the CSA every month and have never missed a payment. At the begining of 2011 the CSA reviewed my case and requested 8 weeks worth of payslips, i was more than happy to oblige but could only find 7. I phoned the CSA and explained this to them and was told they would go to my employer for the missing one. A later letter sent to me gave me the details of my monthly payments, which i payed each month.
In January of this year i received a phone call from the CSA requesting the missing payslip from the previous year, i explained what was said the previous year and they were going to chase it up. Once again i got my payment details through for this year.
2 weeks ago i received a letter telling me my monthly payments were going up for which i have no problem paying but to my surprise i was told that it should have gone up on 01/02/2011 and must pay back the arrears. I phoned the CSA to try and find out why this has happened and i could not pay back the arrears at once and said i could pay it back in small ammounts per month. The lady on the phone said that was not good enough and the minimum they would take is 4 times what i offered.
I received a letter today (8/12/2012) with my new payment plan which as from january includes the arrears of what they want.
I want to know if they have the right to demand what they want as it was there fault and not mine. I work full time and have other outgoings like mortgage, bills ect and the new amount would be putting me to the point where i would be struggling to live. I feel that this is really unfair, if was my fault then i would only have myself to blame but it isnt, I am paying for their errors.
Would be so gateful for any advise no matter how small
thanks

Unfortunately, the CSA can request arrears at a pretty unacceptable level. A number of Dads have had more success in dealing with the CSA by getting their MP's involved, and I would suggest that you do the same as soon as possible - I would say the fact that you have offered to repay the arrears and have always paid what you have been asked, and on time, then a certain amount of leeway should be given.
