[Solved] Trying to share Child Tax Credits with my ex-wife

Hello

I have two children aged 8 and 6. My ex-wife and I have equal share custody of the two children every week which I got by getting a court order against my ex-wife. The children have 4 nights with ex-wife and 3 nights with me. I lost my job 6 months ago and now I get JSA and child benefit for 1 of 2 children. I have asked my ex-wife to share the Child Tax Credit 50/50 with me. Her reply is no. I have asked Child Tax Credit office to share the monies belong to the children 50/50 as I incure living cost, just like my ex-wife. The Child Tax credit office have stated various reasons for not sharing the Child Tax Credit's such as: 1) I do not care for my children. I submiited the shared care custody court order 2) I do not have any children. I submiited birth certificates to prove I am the father of my 2 children. 3) My income of £14,000 gross ( when I was working) is greater than my ex-wife's income of £24,000 tax free from all the welfare departments because she does not want to work and states she is a full - time mother to all the welfare offices so all the CTC should be paid her so the can children benefit 4) the latest reason is that I am not the main carer of the children because I questioned the income of my ex-wife which is 4 times more then mine as I am now unemployed. The CTC office move from one excuse to another in order in order they keep paying her the full tax credits. I have submiited an appeal to question the CTC about the various excuses they have given and also how do the children benefit from all the CTC money given to my ex-wife when they live with me half the week. The appeal takes between 9 and 10 months to be heard. I am struggling to live on the money I get from the job centre. I cannot afford a solictor to help. Please advise if possible. Thank you for your help.

Hi and welcome.

Because this is about CTC, we don't have any experts on here who have any specific knowledge of this as far as I am aware. I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your MP, as they can probably take up your case for you much quicker than the appeal is likely to take, and be able to get a quicker answer. Don't write to your MP, go and see them (they usually hold a week surgery), taking all your points summarised in writing to give to them so that no time is wasted writing it down there, and nothing is missed,
