I am hoping to raise awareness in how the current benefits system is unfair.
Where the DWP/HMRC/Housing assistance is worked out even with 50/50 residence currently only one parent can take advantage of any financial assistance that the government provides.
An example of how the system can be unfair is due to the recent "bedroom tax" Housing benefit currently only will assist to the costs of a 1 bedroom house, even on shared residence cases should both parents be in receipt of benefit or on low income.
You can have an entitlement to child benefit/child tax credits but it does not necessary mean you will be able to receive any help as currently the law states that the DWP/HMRC decide who is the "main career" for help to given even within a 50/50 shared residence case. I would appreciate if you could read as sign the following petition aimed at helping to the change the current law.
