Hello all,
This is my first post here! My wife is pregnant and due in August this year. We have had an offer accepted on a house and are in the process of looking for a mortgage.
As both my wife and my salaries will be taken into account in the initial application, are there any potential issues with applying as she will be on maternity leave.
Unfortunately she will only get statutory maternity pay so our household income will take a hit in the short term. Although we have worked out we could afford repayments on my salary alone.
Has anyone ever been in the same situation? Is it likely we would be denied a mortgage?
Hi, is it your intention that your wife will return to work after your baby is born? If so, I would have thought you shouldn't have a problem - best net though is to talk to your mortgage company or a financial advisor to see what they say.
