Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.
Reporting a concern
It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.
The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

Could someone answer me this
I have a 17 year old son I don't see, but under a court order for maintenance for him.
I think he is taking his A/AS Levels this year or/and looking to pursue a golfing career.
As far as I recall I am due to pay for my son't full time education until he is 18.
I am thinking now if he is deciding to go for a golf career am I am obliged to pay the existing maintenance?
Also as my son is 18 in November can I ask for the maintenance to go straight to his account rather than the mother's?
Any other advice on this area I should know would be welcome.
Kind regards
Peter
Maintenance is only payable to the mother so cant be paid to your son direct.
I believe it is also payable until 18 unless in full time education, over an amount of hours which I dont remember, in which case it is until 21 I think.
There are stickies and other post here which will anser the parts I cant remember and others will likely clarify.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave
Any reason why my son at 18 (adult) can't receive the payment directly?
Does the Court decide through the original order?
Kind regards
Peter
Hi Peter,
I understand that maintenance is paid to the person in reciept of the child benefit.
Regards,
Dave
Child maintenance is payable up until the age of 16 unless the child is in full time non advanced education, in which case it is payable until the child is 20.
That is if the maintenance is paid through the CSA, from what you say this is court ordered maintenance so your agreement is that you will pay until he is 18?
Once he reaches 18 theoretically the mother could apply to the CSA for maintenance and if she is still receiving child benefit this is the criteria the CSA apply when deciding if you are liable.
Okay I have done a bit of searching around on the topic now.
I found the court order and it is untl he is 18 or finished formal secondary education.
As he is 18 in Nov he may be taking his AS level now and A Level next year. So in in theory the court order would be complete next year in the summer of 2014.
I read an article where perhaps an adult (child) could ask the courts for a maintenance order for doing approved training/vocation.
Not sure if this is realise or hypothetical.
Thanks for everyone's support
