Hi me and my ex split up 4 yrs ago .we have two kids together one's 10 yrs old and other is 8 yrs old . My ex also has a boy who's 2 but he's not mine .cut along story short my ex had a breakdown which resulted the kids living with me since october2018
As I was living with my auntie and there was no room for us all .the council have placed us in temporay accomadtion until we find a suitable properly for us all . I am currently on universal credit myself and I now receive child tax credit for my kids . My issue is my claim for child benifit for my kids appartley my ex is contesting my claim .I've sent all the paperwork to prove the kids reside with me yet I don't seem to be getting anywhere . Just wondered what they actually by ex is contesting my claim. She also had a kid to someone else that she claims c.b for .
Can anyone give me any advise.
Social services were involed they have now closed the case stating they are more than happy t have the kids living with me (as that's what they wanted).
Hi there
Have you sent proof from the school or GPs that the children are registered from your address. You should also have proof that you are claiming UC for the children, you could ask Social Services to confirm the children are placed with you permanently, I don’t think they could argue with any of that as proof.
Just keep at it and they will listen. If your ex works, you can also claim child maintenance from her. If you’re coming up against a brick wall you could try asking your MP to help, although I don’t think it will get that far.
All the best
Hi thanks for the advise .my ex doesn't work so carnt see her having to pay maintances . Also aĺl proof that the kids are with me from uc /from school act have been sent I've just received all proof I've sent back in the post .still no wiser as to weather there accepting my claim .
With that kind of evidence, I doubt your claim will be refused to be honest.
I’m surprised there wasn’t a letter included with the proof they’ve sent back to you. You should give them a call and ask for confirmation, as you've received back the proof you sent them, but no notification that your claim has been successful... they should be able to tell you.
Best of luck
