Hi All
I am currently cohabiting with partner and one child, we are not married and are in the process of separation.
We are both on the mortgage and the plan is she will stay in the house with child until he has grown up (currently 10); initially at least she will not be working. I will pay child maintenance and the mortgage etc. until child is self sufficent.
Just wondering will she be entitled to any state benefits or council benefits ?
Thanks
If she isn't working, she may be entitled to both benefits, but she will be encouraged to seek work, as your child is over 5yrs old
Any child maintenance you pay her will not affect the amount of benefit she may be entitled to.
Is it dependant on my salary though ?
I read somewhere that 50K is the limit?
If you have left the property she will be classed as a single parent and will be able to are a claim in her own right. Your income won't come into it,as long as you're not living there.
