I’m sure you’ll say this has been raised before but could someone confirm or advise re my situation please. I have one child who had just finished A levels and is 18 and is looking to work for a year before possibly going to university. As I understand it, I am no longer required to support them (?)
I have a second child who will start a college course in September, having just finished GCSEs. Once finished, they want a year out working before going to university. Am I correct in thinking that I will need to support them until the September of the year they turn 18?
Just to clarify, they both live with their mother.
It's the September after they finish non-advanced education (assuming they finish after May).
According to the Money Advice Service
You’re normally expected to pay child maintenance until your child is 16, or until they’re 20 if they’re in school or college full time doing:
A-levels,
Highers or
Equivalent.
Child maintenance might stop earlier – for example, if one parent dies or the child stops being eligible for child benefit.
