[Solved] Bill payments after separation

need help if anyone has any experience.

Separated and have usual joint bills, ex is disabled and has memory issues due to a mix of conditions and meds so has a little part time job of 7.5hrs. Has had lots of problems managing money in the past so I agreed to keep paying the mortgage and utilities instead of paying direct maintenance so that my credit profile didn't get destroyed and my kids were protected. I had a couple of credit cards I am paying down which are still associated with the old address but all essentials were moved except the bank account until recently. Now had ex kicking off as some company called concentrix have said I am living at old property and have told her they are stopping her payments I gave them all payslips, hmrc letters, credit card bill etc from new address which is my mums months ago.

This situation was explained to HMRC 3 years ago and thought they were OK with the reasons but reading online this 3rd party only get paid when they stop payments.

I don't want to sell the house as I don't want the kids to have to live in social housing in a rough area and she can't take the mortgage on and buy me out and I am not willing to write of £50k which I see as my pension from my early career. I do work away a fair bit so spend most of my weekends running them round to dance classes, football swimming etc but this is looking like its going to ruin everything for me and not sure where I can turn

cheers for any advice you can give

AJ

Hi there,

I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about finances, some of our other moderators and members do and hopefully others will be along to comment.

In the mean time it might be worth contacting your local CAB, they will hold details of solicitors who offer free 30 minute consultations, it might be worth ringing round a few to get some advice.

Good luck

Here's a recent article about Concentrix, there are a lot of people in the same situation!

I would certainly go and see your MP and see if they can help. In the meantime any communication with them should be in writing. I would also move ALL accounts to your new address.

Problem with moving the accounts is I do everything online so not sure other than mortgages what is where :s

She doesn't earn enough to pay the mortgage and I am lucky to have a great mum who let's me give minimal keep when I am home.

I would happily transfer the money each month if I could be sure everything would be paid but with exs mental issues she would forget about what was going out and spend it on [censored] probably not even for the kids!

I feel like I am being penalised for protecting my kids and my own interests as other than whats been provided I don't see what else I can do. Will see her tomorrow when I go get the kids and try and get a copy of the letter and get along to my Mp.

Had an interesting chat with an old friend who used to work for HMRC and if an MP got involved in a complaint they used to get fined everytime so maybe can hit these profiteering yanks where it hurts a little too!

Just an update so it is here for prosperity (or rather it may be of use to someone in a similar situation in the future)

Going to see MP tonight. Spoke to EX and CONcentrix have changed from me living at the property to stopping payments as she is not 'financially independent' despite only earning about £200 a month, giving me £150 to cover her utlity costs against the kids and sorting out her own Mobile and Insurance?????

Spoke to HMRC and apparently I can give as much maintenance as I can afford and that doesn't count as income and can still pay the mortgage so, although she is not happy, I am setting up a maintenance payment and keeping paying the mortgage.

She is a little freaked out she will forget about a DD and get hit with charges, as am I, but as long as its nothing that can result in the house being repossessed then going to have to suck it up!

Will let you know how I get on with MP, and I am also sending a complaint to HMRC TCO about how concentrix have handled this. This is clearly due to the outsourcing and the fact (Thanks Nannyjane for the link) concentrix are basically on performance related pay to cut peoples tax credits for any reason they can possibly find

stressed but soon to have some time with my kids!

So Mp can't help as the problem is hers and different Mp at her address, he's going to pass the details over if the ex agrees so will see what happens when I get the kids tomorrow.
