Hi dads,

can you please advise if/how and when you spoke to your kids about your break-up. what did you tell them and why mummy and daddy no longer live together?

my older kids are 6 and 3. I am just wondering how to break the news to them as they don't know whats really going on. Should i wait a few more years before telling the older one? have feelig things will get more difficult if i re-marry and my kids see this new woman hanging around our house.

thanks.

Been through 2 divorces with my kids, first was from their bio mother, and I think they'd seen it coming - my kids were 3, 10 and 13 at the time I think, and we made it clear it wasn't about them, and at first I was still living in the marital home, but at the opposite end to my then wife, so it was a gradual process, as I was out quite a bit so I don't think they had an issue with the divorce, that came later when they were living with my ex for a couple of years. They took to my new partner (who then became my wife) really well, it was a gradual introduction in ann area they could run around in and come back and sit with us when they wanted, rather than being force to sit in the same room, so they were in control of their level of contact.
