[Solved] Help with engaging fathers at a dads club

New Member Guest

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help?

I am a Family Support Co-ordinator for a local authority - specialising with working with dads, men and boys.

I am looking to put together a questionnaire for dads that do not generally look for the suppourt and guidance from any outside agencies, and generally keeps them self to themselves.

The reason why I have posted something on the forum is to seek advice on how to approach this situation and whether anyone has any particular questions I could put on the questionnaire. I am looking to set up a dads club, which will their children, this can also be for male carers, grand fathers etc....

Any help would be very much appriciated.

Kind Regards,

Richard

Hi, I hope you don't mind me piggybacking this post, but I thought that those reading this, may also be interested in the free groups we have in Enfield. We provide support to fathers who face challenging circumstances in parenting their children, particularly in and around Enfield and Edmonton in North London.
We create links across voluntary and statutory sectors in order to develop activities to support fathers. We also identify and address the barriers that are preventing fathers from being engaged with, and making decisions for their children.
There are real benefits in fathers being involved in their children’s lives. First, we know that the involvement of fathers in their children’s learning and education is associated with better educational outcomes, with better school attendance and behaviour and higher educational expectations. There are also associations with better social and emotional outcomes for children. The role fathers play in bringing up their children has finally been acknowledged to be of huge importance.
Weekly groups are a good way to seek out extra advice and support, and get individual time with the team. These groups provide 1-to-1 advice and support, along with help to access other services. This not only helps to improve parenting, it can also help to bring the joy back to parenting by alleviating some of the worries and complications that are so often part and parcel of bringing up children. It can make a profound difference to the whole community. Being a parent is one of the most rewarding jobs that any of us will ever do. The contribution of each parent should be recognised and valued.

The service is now actively taking on new challenges like providing more support for teenage fathers. Many young men are desperately trying to sustain relationships with their children, against the grain of everyone else's expectations.
To find out where to find out more about our services contact either Bryan Hutton or Alice Martin on 0208 373 2703/2, or email Alice.martin@enfield parents.org.uk.
Don't hesitate to ask us about any of our services.

For me it is always about starting from where the person themself is at.... forget what services exist out there...

seek first to understand, then to be understood

I get i little fed up when people tell me what exists and what to feel like people would understand my world.

hope this is helpful 🙂
