A commission on childcare is being led by Sarah Teather (Minister for Children and Families) and Maria Miller (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions). The commission is looking at how to reduce the costs of childcare for working families, and burdens on childcare providers, without compromising the safety or quality of provision. A consultation is in process to gather views of parents and carers, childcare workers, and those with an interest in child development and safetyis being led by Sarah Teather (Minister for Children and Families) and Maria Miller (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions). The commission is looking at how to reduce the costs of childcare for working families, and burdens on childcare providers, without compromising the safety or quality of provision. A consultation is in process to gather views of parents and carers, childcare workers, and those with an interest in child development and safety. The consultation is open to all, and they are particularly interested in the views of parents who can provide their idea, views and experiences to help shape the commission about how childcare can be made to be more accessible and affordable for families.

We have been asked to get some responses to the following questions:

1) What before and after-school and holiday care do you need and/or want that you are currently unable to access?
2) What would you like your child's school to do to help you access the before and after-school and holiday provision you need?
3) To what extent is cost an issue for you in terms of childcare and does this affect your working life?
4) Do you think the Government should regulate how many children can be looked after by adults? Does the age of the child matter, or the qualifications of the staff?
5) Where do you go to find out information about childcare in your local area? How helpful is this?

Please feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are able. We will pass on all responses to the Commission

Gooner.
