[Solved] Walking to school

At what age would it be appropriate for a child to walk to school on his own. In my case there are two main road to cross before reaching the school.

Ten.
Most children walk with friends in my village. Traffic is vicious and they don't always stop at crossings either!

Ten is about right alone I reckon. maybe eleven even.
But then not even adults are safe with care-less drivers so....
