Hi,
My other half wants to take the little one (will be 2 years 2 months) abroad (to her country) for 10 weeks.
I'm worried about the effect this might have on the relationship I've built with my child. Could she forget me?
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks
Hi there
Ten weeks is a long time, are you confident she will be returning? If you have strong doubts about that, you can refuse to give permission for the trip,... although it’s good for your child to get to know her mothers side of the family, we should never want to deny our children having that.
To reassure you, the bond you have with your child won’t be broken by a 10 week gap... you could request that you and your child have twice weekly contact via Skype or FaceTime, as a requirement for your agreeing to the trip.
If you arrange it for the same day and time every week, it will be something that you can both look forward to and before you know it she will be back home.
All the best
