Hi folks
Recently my 11 year old lad, who started in secondary school last September, was a given a Value Added Progress Tracker.
Could someone be kind enough to explain how it works?
Thank You.
Value Added Progress Tracker
No idea - but have emailed some friends who are involved in education and will tell you what they say it is (if they know).

Thank U
Here you go
In very simple terms its a tool which tracks a pupils progress between where they are working at and where they are predicted to be by the end of a term or year. It's used to measure a pupils progress across key stage 1-2 and then key stage 2-4.
It is done this way as the school have to put it into their figures - the progress between these points is given a value and so the school can be assessed for where they are and should be!
Is this any clearer ? I hope so.

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
However, I don't know how to 'reasd' the tracker..
How do I work out if my child is progressing satisfactorily?
Thanks
Hi geek84
Not an easy one to answer but there is a good link here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/parents/how_is_my_child_doing/
Basically the table shows that at the end of year 4 they are expected to get level 4 and then move to level 5/6 by the end of year 9 (when they are 14). Each pupil will have assessment pieces in their books with targets set by the teachers to get the up to the next levels. These are required by ofsted to be written and easily readable in the pupils books or on their work so the pupil knows what they have to do next. As long as the child is moving up from where they finished year 6 (year 6 SAt results) even if they are not at national expectation, they will be making appropriate progress. If the parent has any questions get them to contact the school- probably the form tutor at secondary- they are entitlted to know the information and schools will generally be really supportive and have information to help explain levels etc. to parents.
Hope this helps.
Oh... probably worth saying that your school should also be happy to go through this with you.
