Good Morning folks
My son has just finished year 7, and during his last parents evening, most teachers said my son needs to 'step up a gear'. When asked what they meant, most teachers said he needs to concentrate more on his subjects and make sure he understands all topics thoroughly as they progress thorough the year.
What is your advice of how I can help him achieve this? Do you think I should employ the services of a private tutor for his main subjects or join some sort of home schooling scheme?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
I would ask the school whether they think a tutor is worthwhile. What might be worth trying is to ask the school to keep you informed far more regularly than once a term. Ask if there is anything you can do to help, and if there's an action plan that you and the school can work on together - drawn up with your son there, as he needs to be part of the agreement, and understand why it's happening. Teachers usually tend to be quite appreciative that a parent is willing to take on some of the responsibility rather than expecting the school to take the whole burden.
Thanks actd
