Just wondered if any other Dads have any experience with learning sign language? My 2 year old daughter is almost deaf is one ear and she seems to find some signing useful. At the moment she's very into Cbeebies program Something Special which is about a guy who signs in Makoten.

I work 30 hours a week and study for a degree so I don't know how I'd find the time to go to a college or night school to formally learn, I wondered if anyone else had some previous experience of a good way to get started?

Not come across that, but since your daughter can presumably hear some things, perhaps you could find a part time course that you could attend together - that way you get time with her at the same time and I suspect you'd both have a good laugh.

Oooh... I watched a Saints and Scroungers programme today (I had recorded it)...the child was 3 and born deaf...learnt some sign language..I didn't think it was possible, but it was....I think the charity to get in touch with is National Deaf Childrens Society, they are a big help from what I understand..they provide signing lessons, weekends away and people with deaf/partially deaf children, who are all a support for each other, could be worth a call.

Thank you everyone, I have come across the NDCS before because they helped my ex get our little girl her hearing aid. I'll try writing to them to see what they recommend, I'll report how I get on 🙂

It might also help to find a deaf club near you.
They hold regular events for deaf and hearing people and are another
good way to get introduced to signing.
