Do you know books for young children which have men in who are shown in a positive way? I read an article in the Times a while back discussing the idea that fathers in children's books are either thick, bad or not mentioned at all. I haven't been through all of our collection at the mo but so far the count hasn't even broken ten.
Talldad - what are the ones you've found so far.... Me thinks we need to write some to balance things up 😉
I started to read Swallows and Amazons as a kid and the dad in that seemed cool (if a little distant!)
if duffers deserve to drown, if not duffers won't drown
interesting parenting style 🙂
You know what, i was thinking the same thing...it would be really interesting if we could all club together and start a range of books which put dad in a good light.
What do you think dads?
Hi Chaps - i'm actually thinking of writing a seriers of books were dads and their kids get to spend time together and bond around adventures. I like the book going on a bear hunt and me and J 5 and H 3 read it alot - we often go to the woods on bear hunts near our house but i was thinking we need more adventures. So far i'm thinking pirates, dragons, aliens but anyone got any other ideas.
think the series will be based around my 2 boys themselves, so watch this space.
PS anyone got any experiance of piublishing books? 😉
I think it's a great idea.

Not sure if it's necessary - Katie Price seems to be doing a good job all on her own 🙂
Hi Chaps
We did a bit of a reccy for books and came up with a little list that we have added to our Amazon pages.
Here's the link just click on the KIDS BOOKS ABOUT DAD to the right - They would make a great stocking filler. 😀 lol: 😆
Great list. But it seems that Dads only have sons or animals.
What about daughters?
Yeah maybe Freerunner needs to make sure he covers that issue when he writes his books!! 😉
Maybe it's still politically incorrect for fathers to have daughters 😥
I saw my barrister last week - he said that statistically I am a freak because I have custody of my 2 daughters.
To Kill A Mockingbird is an excellent example of a Dad as a strong role-model. Suited for slightly older readers, but well worth getting into. The film is also a classic.
Personally, I think any book that is being read by a Dad is a positive influence. I love reading to my little ones and they love reading with me. That's the important bit, surely.
