[Solved] Landline Phones

Ok, was waiting until i've tried and tested this method and I have and i love it.... So here goes time to share the wealth!

This all started a year ago, I could not believe that I was able to get a new number at less than half the cost of my existing one (You can also migrate your existing one to the new service that I speak of)

I know this works if you are with VirginMedia. But in a nutshell, do you want a landline and a fraction of the cost from a normal provider?

Simple, If you have a VirginMedia phone and broadband package, they WILL allow you to switch to broadband only. Get the land line cut off.
The rest of this was originally aimed at businesses HOWEVER they realised they could also break in to the residential market. Thank god they did....

Go to www.voipfone.net which are suppliers of SIP/VOIP trunks, They can set you up with a line from as little as Β£2.00 per month. You WILL need to buy an adapter to convert your existing telephone in to an internet phone but other than that, you will not know any difference.

I've been on a 500 mins package with an extension (200 or 201 for example) and this is at a friends house (he uses my 500 mins too and my number from his house)

My total cost inclusive of lines, minutes, extensions and a few other bits and bobs is Β£10.50 incl VAT - I can take my phone aboard with me and plug in there. My 01 number follows and there are NO international call charges either.

Any Q's ask no probs...

I presume you still have to pay for the Β£13.99 (or whatever the exact figure) monthly line rental to get Broadband? Are you able to keep your old number?

The only charge would be for the broadband. However, this does look less attractive to those users who have an ADSL connection as its more likely that it needs the use of the telephone line and the supplier of the broadband "require" you to have a telephone.

Where this is not the case, then this is how the costs work out

Broadband cost + sip/voip cost both of which are monthly
Voip adapter one off cost of around Β£20 (no more then that)

Doing it this way it works out (as a rule) more than 50%+ cheaper than having an "actual" line.

We've saved about 70% by having the landline disconnected and gone over to a sip trunk. Now ma is on the phone loads more than before!

ROFLOL.........!!!

Just read up a little about it online...... I have an app too that means IF i turn the house phone off the app rings too... No matter where in the world I am (if I'm so [censored] lucky) just need a data connection. All calls in and out are charged as if you were in your living room no matter if you are in Australia. No intl dial codes to worry about just remember to dial 01.... at the start!

will have to look at our next bill to see what we're paying - personally, I would be happy to just dump the landline anyway as I use my mobile normally, even when at home. It would be my wife who would be affected more, especially if we couldn't keep the number.

Sorry, I didn't answer that.... In most cases, YES you can keep the existing number!

Woohoo - that's excellent. Will definitely look into that - I think I'm currently tied into a contract with Virgin for a few months, but near the end of that, I'll be looking to set this up πŸ™‚

If you are with Virgin, you only need to loose their phone service as you obviously need their internet service. !!!

Ok....actd
I paid upwards of Β£50-Β£60 per month for line rental, calls and broadband with Virgin Media.
LnH then showed me VoIP and I was sceptical at first but since we had that converter thingy-me-jig put
in the quality of the calls is the same as a normal line.
With VoIP I pay Β£10.00 for my bundle , I can add extras as I wish and when I wish and it is simple as anything.
So when my Virgin phone line is disconnected I will be at least Β£30-Β£35 per month better off.
I was talking to my mother abroad today and she couldn't spot the difference in quality.
It is something I would definitely recommend looking into.
At the same time we will stay with virgin for our broadband as they have fibre glass cables and we go through a
Heck of a lot of data....so even with paying for the broadband and VoIP we will still save as stated above.:). πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I'm not even worried about the quality of the phone line as it's rarely used in our house - outgoing calls I use my mobile, incoming are usually sales/cold calls, so a poor quality would be a bonus πŸ˜€ )
