Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

please help me

I believe my 5 yo son is in danger from neglect from his mother and possible sexual abuse from his half brother.
I have contacted social services and told them everything that's going on and they are conducting a full investigation

what are my options here?

can I keep my son when I get my next weekend access and not take him back?

Hi there

Just a few questions if you don't mind Stevie.

Do you have Parental Responsibility, either by being married to his mother or by being named on the birth certificate?

How long ago did you get SS involved and does the mother know?

Do you have any evidence or is this what your son has told you?

You mention that you have weekend access, is this through a court order for contact? If it is does the court order state that your son resides with his mother? If there is a court order, how long ago was it granted?

If she has a residency order then it would be more difficult to keep hold of him after his next visit.

This is a serious allegation, what have the SS said to you about protecting him? Have you asked them to support you in removing your son from potential, serious risk of harm?

If you don't want to discuss this more fully on the open forum by answering my questions, please feel free to send me a private message and I'll do my best to advise you.

hi thanks for your enquiries.

yes I have shared parental responsibilities, im on the birth certificate

got social involved about 5 months ago regarding a health issue and concern that the mother was desperate to have my son diagnosed with adhd and autism.
got them back involved 7 days ago when my son told me the mothers boyfriend was smoking funny fags that are stinking, the mother admitted that her boyfriend smokes dope the next day.
other extremely disturbing things came to light in the days that followed this regarding my exes 13 year old son, there is also a sixteen year old couple living in the house who constantly look after my son and the 13 yo half brother who has learning difficulties.

all the allegations have witnesses or can be found in messages apart from the sexual abuse, this is a very strong possibility, this is the main reason for a full investigation.

I have every second weekend with him when she allows it, no courts have been involved so far.

the social has told me to stay away and not get involved while they investigate.

can I legally keep my son the next time I have him?

... Social Services never cease to infuriate me!

I think if there is no court order for residency with the mother then you would be within your rights to keep him, it might be advisable to give the police a call and discuss your concerns with them and ask what they would be required to do if you were to keep hold of him for his protection. Tel, them you have PR and have involved SS but you cant ignore the serious risk to your son and cannot, as SS have advised, stay away or not get involved with the situation any longer.

Best of luck with it.

...I have responded to,your PM.
