Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

Hi me and my ex have been split for 2years we both have new partners we both have PR but this is my situation I pick her up from school every Friday and have her from Friday to Sunday this is all well a good until one week she decides she wants her that weekend or she's letting her mother's have here aka my daughters Nana even if I say no I want to see her it's like I don't matter what ever she says goes and I can do nothing we had a minor issue a few months back when I did not see my daughter for 4 weeks so I got my brother whom is a solicitor to sent her a letter seeking contact all was well and good for a few weeks but now it's the same I get to see her most weekends unless she says otherwise I still have no say she does what she wants not what I or my daughter wants and the worst part about it is her new partner sells drugs from them home (known fact) what the best thing to do phone the police???? The only reason I have not done this yet is due to repucutions. I'm sick to death with not knowing if I can see my daughter every weekend I'm on the verge of breaking down I really need help on this matter

Hi

My personal opinion is that you should report the selling drugs - you should be able to do this anonymously, partly because your daughter shouldn't have this going on around her, and partly simply because its illegal.

I would look at mediation - www.nfm.org.uk - to see if you and your ex can come to a better arrangement than you currently have with regards to certainty, though when it goes to plan, you actually do get quite a bit of contact.

I'd do this literally now if I knew the outcome if they find out it was me or if nothing happened and it carried on I'm just scared of what might happen TBH my ex does not care about my child as much as I do she suffers with asthma really bad she does not have a asthma spay due to being lazy and many other things I'm just scared if I phone them will it make mine and my daughters situation worse than it is now

That's a decision only you can make, and I quite understand your reluctance. I'd certainly look at the mediation aspect to see if you can get the contact on a better basis.

Hi There,
.
I agree with actd, if you are certian that drugs are being sold from your daughters home then Really you should report this, think of your daughter got hold of some and ate them, however I can also see why you are concerned, as even if you did this anonymously there is still a good chance that they will still believe you reproted it.
.
I think mediation would be a good place to start to try and get something set in stone, so maybe try that before anything else.
.
