Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

[Solved] Baby Monitoring Device

Hello Everyone,

I am super excited about having my baby. I wanted to make it easier for me to keep checks on my baby's health.

I talked to the doctors and they said the regular check-ups should be sufficient, but I wanted to use my skills to make something that would be helpful. I wanted to get the word out to you all to get more understanding on what's good to have and what is not necessary.

I was thinking of having a device that measures:

Heart rate
Body Temperature
Activity (Like awake, sleeping, active, idle, etc)
Location data (just in case of an emergency)
Wireless!

I have made wireless gadgets before to help the family around the house and I can whip up this device in a week or two.
I think the device would come out to the size of two AA size batteries glued together sideways. I am hoping that it would not make the baby uncomfortable.

Please let me know what you think!!

Hi Martin

I've deleted the duplicate thread that you had posted in the gadgets section, it can be confusing if there are two identical threads running simultaneously.

Congratulations on the arrival of your baby, it's a very exciting time for you.

I think things like heart rate and body temp are something that can be monitored without the need for a device attached to the baby. Parents naturally pick up when a baby is too warm etc and the use of baby monitors whilst the baby is upstairs in their room/cot are widespread.and very useful to new parents.

As far as a tracking device, most parents are very safety conscious and wouldn't leave their child unattended or in a position where they might be taken....just my opinion.

Where a device like this may come in useful is in a hospital setting or in a crèche, where ther is a need for such continuous monitoring. Good luck
