My son will be 18 in sept 2014
He left school last year and is now in full time employment
Do I still have to pay csa for him?

....As he is in full time employment his mother is no longer entitled to child maintenance. If your payments haven't stopped you should contact the CSA and inform them of the situation.

Your child leaves education or training after 31 August following their 16th birthday

Your child might carry on in education or training, but leave at a later date - for example at age 18 or 19. Your payments will normally carry on from the time they leave until the week that includes the earliest of these dates:
the last day of February
31 May
31 August
30 November

But if one of the following happens, your payments will stop straightaway:
your child starts paid work for 24 hours a week or more

your child starts getting certain benefits, such as Income Support or Employment and Support Allowance, or tax credits in their own right
You will need to report any of these changes to the Child Benefit Office.
It's worth knowing that your Child Benefit can often be extended for up to a further 20 weeks. For this to happen your child must:
be 16 or 17 years old
have left education or training that counts for Child Benefit
have registered for work, education or training with a 'qualifying body'

Hi Thierrryop

Thank you for your post. I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. We are unable to comment on your Child Support Agency (CSA) case as we are a separate organisation and do not have access to your case information. However, I can provide some general information.

Under the statutory rules, regular child maintenance payments must be made until a child is 16 years old, or 20 if they are in full-time, non-advanced education (A-level or equivalent), or for as long as Child Benefit is being paid. You can find more information on when child maintenance payments stop on Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/when-child-maintenance-payments-stop. You may also wish to contact the CSA directly to discuss your query. You can find the contact details for the office that is dealing with your case on any letters they have sent you, or via Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/child-support-agency.

For more information on the ways to set up child maintenance, please visit our website at http://www.cmoptions.org. Alternatively, you can call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on a Saturday. We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

Regards

William
