When to report increase in income when paying tax through self assessment

I have invested in cryptocurrency.I assume any gains above the tax free threshold for the tax year would be taken into account when cms determines how much Child support I would pay. My question is if I had a large gain over night would I have to report that to CMS. The website says any change needs to be reported immediately, however my taxable income will only be calculated at the end of the tax year which would include any losses(in cryptocurrency) being offset against any gains to determine my net income for the year.
